Bringing Life-Saving Diagnostics to Ukraine’s Hardest-Hit Communities

04.17.2026

BCU Foundation is proud to announce its partnership in a vital medical initiative with the Canada-Ukraine Foundation – UCC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal and the Tryzub Gala Foundation. Together, we have successfully provided 90 handheld Butterfly iQ+ ultrasound devices and 90 iPads to the Centre for Disaster Medicine of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

Years of missile attacks have severely damaged Ukraine’s medical infrastructure, leaving many communities without access to essential diagnostics. These portable, hospital-quality systems utilize advanced Ultrasound-on-Chip™ technology to perform real-time cardiac, abdominal, vascular, and pulmonary examinations in the field.

Mobile Care: These devices allow medical teams to bring life-saving diagnostics directly to patients in hard-to-reach areas where traditional facilities are destroyed or too far away.

Rapid Assessment: Deployed by teams transporting critically ill patients over long distances, the devices enable immediate assessments during transport.

Capacity Building: The initiative includes specialized training for medical personnel to ensure effective, long-term use of this technology.

“On behalf of the Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Center of Emergency and Disaster Medicine, a division of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, we express our sincere gratitude for the transfer of these portable Butterfly iQ+ ultrasound systems. These devices will be used both at our institution and distributed among emergency medical centres across Ukraine’s regions. They will be deployed by teams transporting critically ill patients over long distances, enabling rapid diagnostics and timely assessment of patients’ conditions during transport. We are also offering training for medical personnel to ensure proper and effective use. Thank you for supporting Ukrainian medical professionals and strengthening the capacity of the emergency medical and disaster medicine system in Ukraine.”
