BCU Foundation Donor Appreciation Evening (August 23, 2023)

On August 23, 2023, BCU Foundation held the annual Donor Appreciation Evening at Old Mill Toronto celebrating over 20 years of community philanthropy.

The event started with the opening remarks by Roman Medyk, Chair of the Board of BCU Foundation, followed by the presentation of the financial report by Bohdan Leshchyshyn, BCU Foundation Treasurer. The guests had an opportunity to hear about the recent achievements of several designated funds under BCU Foundation: ASSIST Fund, Peterson Literary Fund, Project Soniashnyk Fund and Ukraine Humanitarian Aid Fund.

The highlight of the evening was the announcement of this year’s recipient of the Trembitar Award – David Sutton, CEO and Chairman of the Toronto Congress Centre. In the early days of the full-scale invasion in Ukraine, in the spirit of giving and in a time of need, Mr. Sutton provided a 60,000 sq ft space at the Toronto Congress Centre to serve as the sorting and packing hub for humanitarian aid organized by BCUF’s Ukraine Humanitarian Aid Fund. BCU Foundation was honoured to recognize Mr. David Sutton with this award for his substantial contribution to humanitarian aid efforts in Ukraine.

His Excellency Oleksandr Shevchenko, Consul General of Ukraine in Canada, delivered greetings to guests and donors on behalf of the Government of Ukraine.
