Theodosij Buyniak Youth Leadership Fund

Designation: The fund, established by Buduchnist Credit Union, was named after the former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Buduchnist Credit Union, Theodosij Buyniak, upon his retirement from the Board in 2009. The fund supports projects that engage Ukrainian-Canadian youth and help develop leadership skills.
Background: Having survived the Polish, Nazi, and Soviet occupation of Ukraine, Theodosij Buyniak arrived in Canada as a political refugee in 1948. He was a founding member of the Ukrainian Youth Association in Canada, which he headed on the local and national levels for many years. He was also an active member of the League of Ukrainian Canadians, holding the position of President of the National Executive from 1978 to 1990.
An economist by profession, Mr. Buyniak joined the Board of Directors of Buduchnist Credit Union in 1966. He served as its Chairman from 1981 to 2009, guiding the credit union’s growth and expansion to become not only Canada’s largest Ukrainian-Canadian financial institution, but one of the most successful and diverse credit unions in Canada.
