Yurij Skripchinski Funds

Background: Four designated funds were established at BCU Foundation by Canadian benefactor, Halyna Skripchinski, in memory of her late husband Yurij Skripchinski. The four Skripchinski Funds focus on projects of historical and educational significance.

The Skripchinski Funds include the:

Holodomor Education Fund

Designation: The fund supports research and education projects that raise international awareness of the Holodomor Famine – Genocide in Ukraine of 1932-1933, to ensure that this terrible tragedy never be erased from Ukrainian history or mankind’s collective memory.

Ukraine International Fund

Designation: The fund supports the fostering of young diplomats, namely students studying political science and government policy in Canada and Ukraine, as well as projects that enhance Ukraine’s international presence. Among others, the fund will support students studying at the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University. The fund’s beneficiaries should also promote a positive image of Ukraine on the international stage.

Learning for Advancement Fund

Designation: The fund supports orphaned and underprivileged children in Canada and Ukraine. The fund believes that no child should be deprived of the opportunity to live in decent surroundings, with the benefit of a loving, supportive community and a good education.

Historical Truth Fund

Designation: The fund supports educational and research projects, conferences and publications advancing truth and historical accuracy as they relate to past and contemporary Ukrainian history.

No Child Left Behind Fund

Designation: The fund is focused on improving the quality of life experienced by children in Ukraine who do not have the support of parents and family to foster their success. Through social, educational and cultural programming, children living as orphans in Ukraine will have an opportunity to develop essential skill sets and nurture a sense of belonging, inspiring hope and encouraging them to reach their full potentials in spite of the challenges they confront.
